Our Mission: “all anaesthetists in the UK must have the opportunity to practice techniques for successful lung isolation.”

One Lung is a course for thoracic anaesthesia. It was developed in Bristol and is now being run in centres across the UK.

The emphasis is on developing practical skills through training on skill stations and clinical scenarios.

This one day course is suitable for anaesthetic consultants and ST3+ trainees.

We split the day into two parts: in the morning, we hold skills workshops to learn techniques and knowledge for lung isolation.

During the afternoon we run simulated scenarios to practise strategies for clinical anaesthesia. This integrates the skills, knowledge and human factors required for management of patients.

The workshops will cover training in:

Left and right-sided tubes

  • Clinical and bronchoscopic checks
  • Troubleshooting
  • Tricks and tips

Bronchial Blockers

  • Standard
  • Wire-guided torque-controlled EZblockers
